What is Stage Design?

Stage design/set design is the general name of the field that covers the design of decor, costumes, accessories, butaphores, lights, effects and all other audio-visual environments for a work to be played on stage.

Stage designers can be from a variety of fields; however, when we look at the sector in general, those who deal with this business are generally graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Stage and Decor Design department.

To talk about the stage design in a theater specific way, the designer deals with the materials to be used on the stage. Although this is expressed in different terms for Opera, TV series, Film productions, it is the same as a discipline.

To generalize, it is the design and implementation phase, which we can call the heart of the production process, such as designing the space suitable for the story/scenario and making it 3D in the eyes of the director, bringing all the inanimate materials together correctly, ensuring continuity in a production process.

What is the Difference Between Stage Designer and Art Director?

I have been serving as a stage designer and art director with my work and experience in the sector so far. I would like to underline that those who are studying the stage design department, who are devoted to this job and who are disciplined, responsible and have an aesthetic point of view, should combine these two titles in the same discipline without limiting themselves.
